Ockley Common

Early-attested site in the Parish of Peper Harow

Etymology

Ockley Common. This is the ocan lea of 909 (c. 1150) in BCS 627 (supra 165 n.). Without further forms it is impossible to say if this name is identical with Ockley infra 276, or whether the 12th century form with one c is the correct one, in which case the name is to be interpreted as 'Oca 's clearing,' v. leah .
