Etymology

Chilberton Fm (6″) is Chelberton 1298 FF, Chilbirton '1332 SR, Chilbertone 1384Ct (all p), Chylbertons 1522 SAC xx, Chilbertons 1568FF . Probably 'Cēolbeorht 's farm,' v. tun , with omission of genitival s as in Kennerleigh (PN D 408), or loss of ing from Cēolbeorhtingtūn .
