Etymology

Clattering Bridge (6″) is Clateringebrugende 1293 AD i, Clateryngbrugge 1403Deed , Clateringbridge 1548LRMB , Clatteringe Bridge 1599 SrWills, Clatern (e ) Bridge 1675 Ogilby, 1749 B. This bridge takes the Portsmouth Road over the Hogs Mill River and the name is presumably descriptive of the noise produced by the traffic as it passed over the bridge. Cf.
