Etymology

'The woodland glade at the end of the estate or parish', v. læppa , lēah . Lapley lies at the east end of the parish which fact is probably indicated by the name; the same el. is found in Lapworth Wa 288 and in many other names. For a full discussion, v. Försberg 62, SHC 1916, 126ff, Duignan 90, and Wo 298. Alternative suggestions have been a pers.n. Hlæppa (Wo) and Læppa (DEPN), but these are much less likely.
