Etymology

'Wulfgeat's enclosure', v. (ge)hæg. OE  Wulfgeat had by DB become Ulu (u )iet , Ulviet , v. VCH iv DB 59, 60, 65, 157; note Sir F. Stenton's observation in Dane cxiv, 'The form Ouiet , recorded in a charter relating to the Isle of Axholme, is interesting as an example of the rare name Ufegeat , a late development of the OE  name Wulfgeat '. Ivetsey lay partly in Lapley and partly in Blymhill, Ivetsey Bank being in the former and Ivetsey Fm in the latter; for convenience the name is treated as a whole here.
