Etymology

'The farm beside the Roman road', v. strǣt , tūn . Stretton is on Ermine Street. The affix ēast 'east' distinguished this Stretton from Great Stretton and Little Stretton Lei to the west. The affixes - bithe Strete , - in the Strete were added when the significance of the village name had been forgotten.
