Etymology

The farm or estate of the Norwegians', v. Norðman (Norðmanna gen.pl.), tūn . The village was depopulated in 1764 when Normanton Park was laid out by Sir Gilbert Heathcote and the inhabitants were moved to Empingham. Earthworks of the old village survived at SK 921 063 until the creation of Rutland Water, v. MER 28–9.
