Etymology

'Æðelstan's estate', v. tūn . The sole surviving Anglo-Saxon charter with boundary clauses for Rutland describes a grant of land at Ayston by Edward the Confessor to Æðelstan (ministro mihi …. fideli ). The Ayston Charter infra .
