Gilton Hill is Gyldon 1517 D Inc. Perhaps 'gold hill,' OE  gylden , dūn. golde , 'marigold' is probably the first element of the nearby Golder Manor. Cf. la Guldoneakere a. 1211 (c. 1280) S, la Gildenacre c. 1210 (early 13th) Thame.
