Etymology

Edgington (6″) is Edgingdowne , Egenden feild 1608–9Survey , Edgeingdon field early 18th ParColl, Edgington c. 1840TA . The place is on the boundary of Watlington and Pyrton, and if it is a comparatively late name, it might mean 'boundary down,' with the use of the verb edge to mean 'enclose,' which is first recorded in 1644. But it may be an early name for which only these late forms are available.
