Play Hatch is Playhatch 1603–4Survey , Playe hatch early 17thSurvey . Cf. Playtrawe 1603–4Survey , Playtrave c. 1605Survey .Play Hatch may be a late name, with the word play in some such sense as 'village sports' as first element. It is uncertain what is the second element of Playtrawe . Cf. Plawhatch Hall (PN Sx 329), an older name of similar meaning.
