Etymology

Probably '*Brȳda 's cottage(s),' v. cot(e). The personal name is apparently found in Bridmore and Burcombe in Wiltshire (PN W 201). There may have been a connective -ing- in the original form of the name. The formally possible 'cottage of the bride' does not give very good sense.
