Etymology

'East cot(e).' d 'Oyley from the family of Wido de Oileio , who held Escota c. 1100 RegAntiquiss. Ascot Earl takes its suffix from the le Despensers, earls of Winchester: cf. the Calendar of Fine Rolls for 1326—”the manor of Ascote, co. Oxford, late of Hugh le Despenser, earl of Winchester.”
