Etymology

'Tīr 's spring,' v. wielle , Tīr being a pet-form of such an OE  name as Tīrweald or Tīrwulf . For the phonology cf. Wraysbury which is first found in the 16th century for earlier Wiredesbury (PN Bk 244–5s. n. Wyrardisbury).
