Etymology

v. þorp , 'dependent settlement.' Perlethorpe did not form part of the Honour of Peverel and there seems to be no evidence as to the way in which the name Peverel came to be prefixed to the original Thorp . The form Peuerellingethorp is to be regarded as eccentric rather than archaic.
