Etymology

'The by of Þur ,' a short form of a Scandinavian compound name in Þor , Þur (Feilitzen 300) or of Þurir , recorded in Old Danish and corresponding to the common West Scandinavian Þórir . Cf. Thoresby and Thoresthorpe (L).
