Cornley is Cornelay 1255 BM, Corneley 1297Rental , 1298MinAcct , t. Hy 6Newstead , Cornley (e )1286 ib., 1340Ass , Cornlay felde t. Hy 6Newstead . Probably OE  corna leah , 'cranes' or herons' clearing or wood,' if we can assume the occurrence of OE and ME  cron for cran metathesised to corn as far east as this.
