Etymology

In DEPN the suggestion is made that the first element is an OE  personal name, possibly *Eoh-beorht , an unrecorded name for which Ekwall cites the parallel of Eohric . This is a possible solution but we have no other evidence for OE  compound names in Eoh -. Possibly the personal name is OE  Eorphere which is on record. The first r would readily be lost. v. tun .
