Etymology
Hamfield Fm (6″) is Hamfeld c. 1300CartN , c. 1400Rental , le Hamfeld 1400Compotus . Cf. also Hambalke 1440Compotus . This is probably a compound of hamm , 'flat low-lying pasture,' and feld . Cf. Inhams infra , which is close at hand, and ham in EDD, which gives 'enclosed level pasture' as the meaning of this word in Northants.
