Etymology

Park Colsters is Colestertis 1286, bosc. de Colstretes t. Ed 3, Colstertes 1345, 1367For , Colesteres 1642 Woods Rept. The ground is much broken here, and we have OE  steort, 'tail of land,' in the plural. Cf. Stertes in Greatworth (1271FF ) and in Welton (t. Ed 3Rental ) and supra 12 n. In this forest area the first element is perhaps OE  col , 'charcoal,' hence 'pieces of land where charcoal was burned.'
