Etymology

'Middle farm,' tun. It lies between Gayton and Wootton.The Malsor family held land here in the 12th cent. The form Mallesworth is an inverted spelling due to the belief that the final er or or was a reduction of an early worth , as in the pron. [sæpsə] for Sawbridgeworth (Herts). Cf. Tansor infra 208.
