Etymology

'Middle farm,' v. tun . Possibly so named because midway between Purston (Nth) and Wardington (Wa). Simon de Chendut held the manor in the 12th Century Survey. John de Curd held a part in 1205 (ClR). Distinction is also made (Bridges i, 184) between Upper or Church Middleton and Nether Middleton (Nethere middelton 1287Ass ) a hamlet a quarter of a mile to the east.
