Etymology

'Cyna's village' from the OE  pers. name Cyna (Redin 47), or 'royal village' from OE  cyne 'royal.' The change from Kin - to King - is due to folk-etymology and parallels are found in Kingthorpe (L) DBChinetorp and Kingsbury (Wa) DBChinesburie , 1322 BM Kinesbury . v. þorp .
