Etymology

The first element of this name in - is the gen. of the OScand pers.n., ODan , OSw  Rolf , OWScand  Hrólfr , which is a contraction of Hróðulfr . DB Rotholfuesbei preserves the full form of the name. The 1044–7 spelling (in a ME  MS copy) reflects the hypocoristic form Rolle . One of the DB forms shows confusion of Hródulfr with OScand  Þórólfr . Cf. Ekwall (DEPN s.n.), Sandred 1988: 16 f. and Insley 209 ff. The church is dedicated to St George.
