Etymology

OScand  kráka 'crow' and OE  ford. DB shows that, at the time of the Conquest, Banningham “was only a hamlet to Crachefort ”; later Crakeford occurs especially as an alternative name of the manor of Banningham (Blomefield VI326 ff.). Another manorial name was Tutington cum Crackforth , which included also parts of Banningham and Aylsham (Blomefield VI349).
