Etymology

Probably 'Rudd 's farm,' v. worþ . Cf. Rudham (Nf), Rudeham 1086 DB, Ruddaham 1163 BM, which contains the strong form Rudda . The name is now lost, but two references above suggest that this was the name of the small part of Colnbrook (Bk) which lies east of the river Colne in Middlesex. For the sound development u to i in the neighbourhood of point consonants cf. PN W xx, and for similar u to e cf. Teddington infra 24.
