Hammond's Fm was earlier S (c )hepcote 1399, 1428 IpmR, Shipcote 1428 ib. and is Shipcotes otherwise Hamondys 1452 ib., Hamondes otherwise Tycheborn 1544 FF. The earlier name is self-explanatory, v. cot(e). Robert Hamond is mentioned in connection with Stanwell in 1534 (FF). The family must have been in the district a century earlier.
