Etymology

'Geofa 's well watered land,' v. eg . Cf. Geofanstige (BCS 1074), a lost place near Bath (So), geofandene (BCS 116) near Ombersley (Wo) and Yeaveley (Db) (DEPN). The place stands on flat land between two branches of the Colne.
