Etymology

Probably 'Hringwulf's outlying farmstead', v. þorp . Spellings from c.1130 onwards point strongly to the OE  pers.n. Hringwulf as the first el. of the name. The isolated DB form with Ricol - may be due to scribal error in the omission of n (with c representing the common AN interchange of k and g ) or else represents the OGer  pers.n. Ricolf which was replaced by Hringwulf . A possible alternative to OE  Hringwulf as first el. is the ODan /OSwed  pers.n. Ringulf but this is badly evidenced in Scandinavia and it is worth noting that Feilitzen 293 takes the DB instances of Ringulf to represent Hringwulf .

Ringlethorpe early became a grange of Garendon Abbey and is styled as a grange from the 12th cent.: grangia de Ringolthorp 1150 × 1200GarCh , Grang ' de Ryngolthorp 13GarCart , grang ' de Ringelthorp 1467 × 84LTD , Ryngelthorpe Grange 1551 Ipm, Ringlethorp Grange 1558 × 79 ECP.

From at least 1577, it is recorded as Goldsmith(s) Grange: Goldsmiths graunge 1577 Ipm, Goldsmiths Grange 1609 LeicW, 1610 Speed, 1708Terrier , Gold (e )smithe graunge 1601, 1605, 1612ib , Goldsmythe graunge 1605, 1612ib , (the ) Goldsmith Grange 1625ib , 1657Deed , 1674Terrier et freq to 1730ib , 1761EnclA et passim to 1877 White, Goldsmiths ' Grange (sic)1863 ib; it is Scalford Grange 1824 O. The grange was renamed from Joh ' Goldsmith 1463 Nichols who was a later owner, v. grange .
