Etymology

'(The place with) red earth', v. rēad , mylde , cf. Rodmell, Sx 325 and note Redlond 1252 in f.ns. (b) and Red Furlong 1795 in f.ns. (a) infra .Redmile lies in the Vale of Belvoir, hence ~ in le Wall 1519Wyg , ~ in le Vale 1530ib , v. val . Some 12th and 13th cent. forms for the generic have been attracted to myln 'a mill'.
