Etymology

'The woodland glade; the open space in woodland', v. launde . ME  launde is from OFr  lande 'a glade, woodland pasture'. The word appears in MLat  as landa and launda 'a forest glade'. OFr, MLat and ME forms are represented here in the recorded spellings.
