Etymology

For forms and interpretation of the place-name Langton, v. Church Langton supra .

East Langton is recorded as Est Towne 1564 Nichols, 'the eastern township'. The affixes Est ~ and Estere ~ are from OE  ēast 'east' and ēastere 'more easterly', so designated in contrast to West Langton infra , now a separate civil parish. By c.1130 LeicSurv, East Langton with Church Langton is distinguished from West Langton which is styled alia Langeton ' (with MLat  alia '(the) other').
