Etymology

This is probably for OE  Cubbeling cote, with the same personal name Cubbel suggested for Cublington (PN Bk 78).For early loss of the -ing , cf. Codicote infra 109. The DB form is corrupt. Hence, 'Cubbel 's cottages.' For confusion of initial c and g cf. Caldecote infra 60.
