Etymology

Plaistows Fm (6″) is Plasters 1669, The Plaisters 1679 Verulam, and was probably the home of William de Pleystouwe (1307SR ) and William Pleystowe (1382Ct ). 'Place of play,' v. plegstow .Cf. Playstow infra 175. For the 17th-century spellings, cf. Plaster Down (PN D 249). The s is probably pseudo-manorial.
