Etymology

Stubbocks Wood (6″) is bosco de Stubehokes 1278Ass , Stubbockes t. Chas 1Add , Stubbocks cross 1666 ib. 'Wood of the stubbed oaks,' v. stubb . Professor Salisbury notes that the practice of coppicing oaks is rare in Hertfordshire and the wood may have thus been distinguished from others.
