Etymology

Shootersway is Shokersweye 1357Rental , Shukers waye t. Jas 1DuLa , Shookers Way 1627 Sess, 1638 Terrier. The first element is the OE  sceācere , 'robber,' noted under Sugarswell (PN Wa 285), where a parallel Shuger Waie (1591) near Sugar Hill in Aldbourne (W) is adduced.
