Etymology

Marlin Fm preserves in a corrupt form the name of the manor of La Magdeleine 1274 Ipm, La Maudeleine 1275 BM, chapel of Magdalena t. Ed 1 ib., manor de la Maudeleyne 1302FF , Maudeleyn maner '1392 IpmR, Mawdeleyns 1502FF . The ruins of the ancient chapel of St Mary Magdalene, from which this manor probably took its name, still exist (VCH ii, 248).
