Etymology

Green Tye is Grene Tye 1543 EHAS viii, Greenetye 1597 Sess and was perhaps the home of Richard atte Tye (1319StPauls ).The name is interesting since it is the only example found in the county of OE  teag, 'enclosure,' so common in the adjacent county of Essex. Green Tye is only two miles from the border.
