Birchall is Bircholt 1208 Abbr, Birgholt 13th AD ii, Bercholt 1208 Cur, Bilechholt 1220 Fees, Bricholt (e )1291 Tax, 1341 Pat, Birchholt 1316–25 AD i, Birchall 1556AOMB . 'Birch wood,' v. holt . Cf. Birchall Green (PN Wo 127). For the spellings with initial Bric - cf. Brigstock (PN Nth 158). That of 1220 shows Anglo-Norman influence (cf. Birchanger, PN Ess 518).
