Etymology
Bohun Lodge is (le ) Burnegate 1270Ct , 1427Cassio , Bornegate 1411Ct , 1610 Cass, Bournegate 1636 ib., Boongate 1676FF , Bohun Gate , Bohun Place 1779 Cass. Cf. also le Bornewyke 1332Ct , Bournefeld 1402 ib. The modern form is evidently corrupt.Bourne became bone , boon , as in Bone End for Bourne End (PN Bk 198) and was expanded to Bohun , a name which is colloquially pronounced as boon and sometimes so spelt. The Bourne in Widford is known locally as Bone , and The Bone is the name of a deep ditch in Much Hadham. Bourne (v. burna ) may refer to Pymmes Brook nearby.
