Etymology

This referred to the tumulus just east of the village (156–824942); a much larger one lies a mile south-east in Tump Covert in Beverston (156–840935), so that Lasborough may well mean 'the lesser barrow', from OE  lǣssa 'smaller' and beorg. Lassington (iii, 160), nearly 18 miles to the north across the Severn, has similar forms for the first el.
