Etymology

Grovesend, la Grave 1311 Ipm (p), Greuenende 1552FF , Grovend 1557 ib, Grovenend (e )1592, 1619 ib, Grovening 1779 Rudder, Groves End 1716 Will, cf. also Grovenhall 1625 Inq, Grovenhill 1640Rec . 'End of the grove', v. grāf(a), ende . The same grove is named in Grovesend Fm in Alveston (112infra ) and Grovesend Quarry in Tytherington (20infra ). For the late -ing form from -end cf.
