Etymology

Wallscourt Fm (1830 M), Wallshut Wood (1830 M), (le ) Walles 1327 Ipm, 1330FF , 1337 Orig, 1347 Ipm, Walle 1400, 1464 Ipm, Wallyskowrte 1398Asht 3, Walsh Ct 1485–1500 ECP, cf. also Walleputte 1468MinAcct . 'The walls', v. wall 'a protective wall of stone or earth', here probably banks built round the dwelling; v. also court , pytt 'pit' and scīete 'corner of land' (Wallshut being on the edge of the parish).
