Etymology

Tiltup, Tiltups Inn 1830 M. This p.n. occurs several times in Gl (93, ii, 202, iii, 164 infra ), but not with early spellings. It could represent a dial. pronunciation of 'the hill top' (cf. Phonol. § 45), but is more probably the obsolete Gl dial. tiltup 'covered wagon' (EDD).
