Etymology

'Beorhtwald's mound' from the OE  pers.n. Beorhtwald , Brihtwald and beorg. The meeting-place of the hundred has been identified with Barrow Elm Fm in Hatherop (37infra ) where the hundred court met in 1400 (BG ix, 333) and which is in the centre of the hundred.There is a Brighthallesbarowe felde in 1540AOMB 444, 30, 1540MinAcct , but its location is not certain (40 infra ).
