Etymology

'Ford usable in summer', v. sumor , ford (here one across the R. Thames). The affix is the surname of the feudal owners, de Kaaines (1215 ClR), de Kaynes , de Kahaynes (1281 Ipm), etc.; cf. Poole Keynes (79supra ).
