Etymology
Plython Lake, ate Pleʒethorn ' 1322 Ext (p), Pleythorne 1497AOMB , Plythorn Lake 1830 M. Plythorn is 'thorn-tree where sport took place', v. plega , þorn . The lake is a pool or channel in the Severn, v. lacu 'stream, water-course' but it may be ME lake (Lat lacus ) 'lake, pool'.
