Etymology

The few early spellings in Kilde - are possibly variants of Kille - with an intrusive -d - which arises in ME, though in somewhat different conditions (cf. Jordan § 202). The name would therefore be of similar origin to Kilcott (30supra ). 'Cylla's cottage', v. cot .
