Etymology

Botloe's Green, Bottelawe 1241FF , 1248Ass (p), Bottelowe 1246FF , 1301 Misc, Oldbotley c. 1580LRMB , Botlowe Green 1619 Inq.'Bōta's mound', from the OE  pers.n. Bōta and hlāw (cf. Anderson 4); the f.ns. Botcroft , Botgrove (infra ) may be associated with it. The place was described as a pasture in Newent and Pauntley (1241FF ); Hundred field in Pauntley (184infra ) also refers to the meeting-place of the hundred (166 supra ); it is on the west side of Botloe's Green.
