Etymology

'(At) the new farmstead', v. nīwe (wk. obl. nīwan ), tūn . 'Long' refers possibly to the lane along which the houses of the hamlet are dispersed or to the length of the parish; niwe heme is 'Newton dwellers', v. hǣme .
